Internship Overview
In addition to the formal training program through our two-year Fellowship Training Program in Digestive Diseases Health Services Research, we offer internships to a limited number of qualified candidates interested in gaining exposure to health services research methodology. We review applications from advanced clinical fellows, medical residents, medical students, and pre-medical college students who have distinguished themselves as forward thinking, research-oriented, clinically-minded individuals. Internships typically last between one and six months in length.
Internship Objectives
Interns accepted to work with UCLA/VA CORE are expected to complete one or more projects in the field of Health Services, across any relevant content area. Typical intern projects include:
- Cost-effectiveness analysis
- Online survey design and administration
- Limited database analysis
- Systematic review
- Meta-analysis
Interns can expect careful oversight by one or more members of the Center, and will be expected to actively participate in Center activities, attend relevant lectures and symposia, and take personal initiative to read relevant literature and other reading assignments. In return for their efforts, interns can expect authorship status on any publications arising from their direct efforts, and letters of recommendation, when appropriate, from members of the Center. Moreover, interns can expert to learn one or more health services research methods, and, upon completing the internship, will be poised to extend their knowledge in future research-oriented pursuits.
