
Martijn van Oijen is currently a PhD and M.D. Candidate at the department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center in the Netherlands, and is the Principal Epidemiologist for UCLA/VA CORE. He has received a Master of Science in Biomedical Health Science at the same university with two majors: Epidemiology and Medical Technology Assessment. His PhD thesis, entitled “New insights in adverse events of low-dose aspirin,” includes a series of health services research projects relating to the complex interplay between health economics, effectiveness, and adverse events relating to aspirin therapy, proton pump inhibitor therapy, and NSAID therapy. He is currently completing his PhD thesis, and is concurrently conducting research in NSAID-related peptic ulcer disease, vitamin absorption, the genetic basis of aspirin metabolism, and clinical pathways to care for ischemic heart disease. Mr. Van Oijen has advanced skills in database analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, and epidemiology. He is a regular collaborator with members of UCLA/VA CORE, and is currently working with CORE to determine the most cost-effective approaches to managing the complex balance between aspirin risks and benefits.
