Gil Melmed, MD
Dr. Melmed received his medical degree at Albert Einstein Medical Center in New York where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors society. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and is currently a senior Gastroenterology fellow at UCLA, clinically based at Cedars-Sinai. He has trained at Cedars' renowned Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center with Dr. Stephen Targan, and maintains an active clinical interest in the diagnosis and management of patients with IBD.
In addition to his clinical pursuits, Dr Melmed is completing a Master's degree in Clinical Research at UCLA through an NIH-sponsored training program. He has several active research interests related to IBD including: (1) health-services research on quality of life, assessment of disease activity, and cost-effectiveness of various management modalities in patients with IBD (2) the clinical utility of biomarkers for the diagnosis of subtypes of IBD (3) issues relating to vaccination of patients with IBD. He maintains active collaboration with Drs. Brennan Spiegel and Eric Esrailian on several projects.
